The "Tutti Frutti" Game

Over the summer time, PERC sponsored the "Teen Summer Game Days" event. Teens got to play a lot of the games offered at PERC. Tutti Frutti was played on the very first game day and it was a favorite!

Tutti Frutti is recommended for older children and their parents. When the cards are flipped over there are fruits on the other side; players must recognize the fruits in the pictures and the amount of fruits to hit the bell. It is a fun and fast game that you and your child(ren) will love!

A Love for the United States!

Do you remember the age where you first learned all 50 states of the US. Here is a great game for remembering the States in the USA. The game is called "NAME THAT STATE."

The object of this game is to do exactly as it says, Name That State! You will need 2-4 players ages 8 & up. It will be challenging for some or a breeze for others. You will spin the arrow to find which numbered state you will have to name. If correct you will be able to move forward. If you do not know the answer you miss your turn. The game may be made more challenging by having players answer the state and its capital.

The first player to make it all the way around the board wins! There are Post Cards with directions-- A postcard may say this: "We enjoyed the view from Mt. Washington in State 6-- 'Name That State.' " And road directions that will move you forward or backwards.

This is a fun game that will get you thinking about the states, capitals, and remembering their shapes. This game may be a useful tool in the classroom setting-- where children can test their knowledge, play, and recall what they have learned. If used in a family setting-- be cautious of parents or friends that tend to cheat. But, Worry Not, there is an 'answer key' to guide all players.

This game is available for you. Come in and check it out!

Teen Summer Game Day #2

The "Teen Summer Game Day" of July turned out to be a big success. There were 14 teens who came to play with us. Here is a list of the games we played on July 7, 2010.

1. BLURT!

2. Chinese Chess

3. Riddle Race

4. 4 take four

5. Freeze frame

6. Roll ‘n multiply

7. Quixo

8. Quads

9. Batik
10. Picture Picture

The games were taught quickly and teens were able to play with other teens. Playing games gets everyone to think and use their solving skills. We also played Picture Picture on the big screen. Picture Picture is a game where everyone has to fill in a unique answer for letters A-Z. This game included everyone and there were many creative answers. Our winner even got a prize.

The good thing about this "Teen Summer Game Day" is that it gets teens familiar with the games that are available to them. It is something that can be taken home to play with parents, grandparents, and friends. These games are really great and they get everyone to participate. And we want to remind you that everything at PERC will be a useful resource for parents. We hope that all the teens had a fun time at the July- "Teens Summer Game Day," Now we will be coming upon our last "Teen Summer Game Day" for the summer. The date will be on August 4, 2010, a Wednesday-- we would love to see more teens there!

Fourth of July is Independence Day
"Independence Day honors the birthday of the United States of America and the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. It's a day of picnics and patriotic parades, a night of concerts and fireworks, and a reason to fly the American flag." (www.usa.gov)

We wish you all a happy and safe Independence Day! Whatever your plans are, we hope that you have fun spending time with your children; while teaching them a little American History!

Teach Numbers

If you have a young child (preschool age) who is learning his/her numbers from 1-10, there is an easy and fun activity game that can be played. In this picture, there are big pieces with huge numbers from 1-10. These pieces fit together only in their correct numerical order; there is also the ability to put pegs into each hole. Children learn to count each peg and look at the correct number. This activity is sure to increase your interaction time with your child and help them learn the numbers quickly.

These are only a few of the activities we have at PERC. If these don't interest you, we are sure to have other items that will.
